Information

Teak highboard from the Paola line, designed by Oswald Vermaercke for V-Form, Belgium, 1959. The upper section combines a solid sliding door with a glass sliding door opening onto three adjustable shelves, ideal for displaying ceramics, glassware or small sculpture. Below, two further sliding doors conceal a full-width storage compartment. The case stands on slender, tapered solid teak legs joined by a shaped stretcher, a detail typical of V-Form's output from this period and one that sets it apart from the more common hairpin-leg cabinets of the era.

Vermaercke designed for V-Form out of Kortrijk through the 1950s and 60s, and his work is often mentioned alongside Alfred Hendrickx and the wider Belgian answer to Danish modernism — closer in spirit to Arne Vodder than to the heavier French or German cabinetry of the same decade. Sliding-door construction throughout, no visible warping or veneer lifting, original hardware.
