Louis van Teeffelen Model No. 15 Coffee Table with Ravelli Tiles

A beautiful and highly characteristic example of Dutch mid-century design, this Model No. 15 coffee table was designed by Louis van Teeffelen for WéBé in the 1960s.

The table is crafted in warm teak and immediately recognisable by Van Teeffelen’s sculptural approach to furniture design. The gently shaped legs, flowing supports and slightly raised tabletop give the piece a light appearance despite its generous 150 cm length.

One of the most distinctive details is the original ceramic tile composition by Dutch ceramic artist Jaap Ravelli, incorporated directly into the teak tabletop. The graphic black, white, grey and red design creates a striking contrast with the warmth of the wood and makes this version particularly appealing.

Below the tabletop is the characteristic woven rattan magazine shelf. The rattan on this example has been carefully restored, preserving the original appearance and functionality of the design.

The teak has also been carefully sanded and treated with fresh oil, bringing back the depth and natural warmth of the wood while retaining the character expected from an original piece of 1960s furniture.

Van Teeffelen was one of the defining designers associated with Dutch furniture manufacturer WéBé, combining influences from Scandinavian modernism with his own organic detailing. Model No. 15 is a particularly good example of this approach: functional and understated from a distance, but full of carefully considered details when viewed up close.

With its substantial 150 cm proportions, restored rattan work and original Ravelli ceramic insert, this coffee table works beautifully in both a dedicated mid-century interior and a more contemporary setting.
