A distinctive vintage teak hi-fi and storage cabinet designed by Cees Braakman for Pastoe, the Netherlands. Part of Braakman’s well-known Made to Measure series, this piece combines clean Dutch Mid-Century Modern design with a clever and highly functional layout.
With its tall and relatively narrow proportions, the cabinet provides plenty of storage while requiring only a modest amount of floor space. The warm teak wood, minimalist construction and open shelving are characteristic of Braakman’s work for Pastoe during the post-war modernist period.
A particularly interesting feature is the large pull-out and rotating platform measuring 70 × 40 cm. This was conceived for audio equipment and makes the cabinet particularly suitable for use with a record player or vintage hi-fi system. The platform can be pulled forward and rotated, allowing easier access to the equipment.
The combination of open shelves and the dedicated audio platform also makes this an excellent piece for displaying and storing vinyl records, books, ceramics and other objects. It works equally well as a record cabinet, media unit, bookcase or freestanding storage piece.
Cees Braakman was one of the key figures in post-war Dutch furniture design and served for many years as Pastoe’s head designer. His Made to Measure furniture was developed around the idea of flexible, functional storage, resulting in numerous configurations for different uses. Today, these pieces are sought after for their restrained modernist appearance and practical construction.
