A striking Belgian mid-century sideboard attributed to Jos De Mey, dating from the 1960s. With its clean architectural lines, warm wood tones and beautifully balanced proportions, this piece is a strong example of Belgian modernist furniture design.
The sideboard measures 180 cm wide, making it a particularly practical size. Many Belgian sideboards from this period are considerably longer, while this model retains the visual presence and storage capacity of a substantial credenza without requiring an exceptionally large space.
The front has been designed with an emphasis on simplicity. It consists of three doors and four integrated drawers, with no conventional handles interrupting the façade. The doors feature a discreet push-to-open mechanism: pressing the corner releases the door, resulting in an exceptionally clean and almost uninterrupted front.
The cabinet is raised on a sculptural wooden base with tapered legs. This gives the substantial cabinet a lighter appearance while highlighting the horizontal lines of the design.
Behind the doors is generous storage space, making the piece suitable as a living-room sideboard, dining-room credenza or statement storage cabinet.
The sideboard remains in good vintage condition overall, with age-related signs of use. There is a visible rectangular discolouration/mark on the top surface, which has been taken into account in the condition and pricing. Please refer to the photographs for a detailed impression.
