This extendable dining table was designed by Louis van Teeffelen for Wébé Meubelfabrieken in the Netherlands during the 1960s, produced under the model name "Milan." Van Teeffelen was Wébé's principal designer through much of the 1950s and 60s, and his work sits alongside that of contemporaries such as the Danish mid-century makers he was often influenced by, while retaining a distinctly Dutch restraint in proportion and joinery.
The tabletop is finished in a straight-grain teak veneer with a beveled edge running the full perimeter, giving the top a slim visual line despite its solid construction. A single center leaf is stored within the table and slides out along a concealed rail system, extending the table from a compact 150 cm to a full 190 cm without the need to store a separate leaf elsewhere. This is a practical detail that made the Milan model popular in its day: a table sized for daily use that expands easily for larger gatherings, with no interruption in grain continuity across the leaf when closed.
The base consists of four tapered, gently splayed legs in solid teak, joined to a straight apron frame — a construction typical of Wébé's output from this period, built for long-term structural stability rather than decorative flourish. The legs show the characteristic turned taper toward the foot, a detail that recurs across several of Van Teeffelen's dining and occasional table designs for the brand.
This example is in very good condition. The veneer is even in color with no discoloration, water rings, or veneer lifting, and the extension mechanism operates smoothly with no play or resistance. Legs and frame show only light, honest signs of age consistent with original use.
