A rare and unique vintage coffee table from the 1960s or 1970s, blending mid-century modern design with natural textures. This striking piece features a bespoke patchwork runderhuid (cowhide) surface in rich brown and beige tones, set within a dark teak wooden rim. The table is supported by a sleek, chrome metal star base (pedestal leg), offering a clean, retro aesthetic typical of European design (e.g., German manufacturer Emü style). The top has been recently re-oiled and is in excellent vintage condition.

This is a remarkable vintage coffee table that combines the sleek elegance of mid-century modern design with a bold, natural element. The table is an iconic example of furniture design from the 1960s or 70s and is a true eye-catcher for any interior.

The most distinctive element of this table is the round tabletop, which features a beautifully inlaid patchwork of different cowhide (hair-on-hide) panels. These panels vary in natural shades from light beige to dark brown, giving a warm, rustic appearance. The rim of the top is finished with dark brown teak or veneer.

The top rests on a modern, glossy metal base. This type of base, often referred to as a 'spider leg' or 'tulip base' with four points, was popular during this period because of its stability and the ability to easily slide chairs underneath without corner legs getting in the way.

Origin and Condition

Although a specific designer label is unknown, the design is comparable to that of European manufacturers who made tile tables or wooden tables on similar metal bases in the 1970s (e.g., Emü, De Nisco). The table is in good vintage condition, the top has recently been treated with oil to nourish and protect the wood and leather.
